Last Month, Yaneiris turned 15, and in the latino culture, they celebrate with mass, special traditions and of course a party. Yaneiris family had a special celebration planned for her with a theme of “UNDER THE STARS” but due to COVID, plans were yet again haulted. Mrs. G (mom) reached out to me to see if I could help them create a celebration for her in a different way and I was more than happy to help.
We had planned to meet at the Point to set up a traditional celebration but again, we were changing plans last minute due to rain, so I suggested the pillars at Mellon Institute. I am SO glad we changed location because I could not have suggested a better place for these photos! It looks amazing for what they were doing.
I personally was not familiar with the traditions of a Quineanera, and this was my first time experiencing and celebrating with a latino family for their daughter. I have done weddings, but only ever saw snippets of a quinceanera through my favorite show ever, Jane the Virgin. (Why did they have to go and quit like that, amIright? ) The traditions included the changing of shoes ceremony, placing the tiara, father- daughter dance and our own twist of bottle popping. I loved being apart of their families ceremony. It was amazing and so special; I was honored to be the photographer.
Once we wrapped up all the traditions, they celebrated with a toast, grabbed some fun family photos and took Yaneiris for her own special photos. I absolutely loved The G families energy and how stunning they all looked! This family knows how to throw a celebration no matter where and what the circumstances are. I know it might not have been what Yaneiris had hoped for, but I certainly hope she loved her experience. It was beautiful, full of laughs, jokes and smiles and I am so happy I was there to capture it all!
